Thank you Buck - appreciate the reply and the information you have provided. I have been doing some research into the protocol that Testo utilizes in their IR capable instruments and at least as far as all of the information I am able to review the protocol, while proprietary in some respects - appears to be applied acros their entire communicating instrument lines.

I would venture to say if you have achieved a degree of success with the 556 it will also be applicable to the 523 - can’t wait to see it in action.

Yes it is possible. I have developed a prototype application that will read the data from the Testo 556 IR Printer port to a Palm based PDA.

I am just cleaning up a few of the database features (saving collected data), and will then share it with a few folks for some testing.

Both instruments (the DC and the Testo) have unique diagnostics features. I personally prefer the Dynamic Offset Graph in most applications, so I will typically grab the Digi-Cool first. Although I personally like the second generation 523 very well - I think the Dynamic Offset Graph puts the DC heads and shoulders above it. The 556 is another animal altogether. I honestly do not believe the full capabilities of this instrument is even realized by Testo themselves. The documentation capacity alone makes this instrument invaluable. When you couple that with wireless peripherals, with the correct configuration it is without a doubt the most comprehensive diagnostics instrument this industry has seen in 30 years.

That’s a pretty significant statement. The first gen., 523 has a lot of diagnostics capabilities.
